Netflix India has opened applications for the NextGen India Writers' Program, a new initiative aimed at discovering and mentoring emerging screenwriting talent developing original Hindi-language series. The programme marks the third international edition of Netflix's NextGen initiative, following similar programmes in France and the Netherlands.
Applications are open until 1 September 2026, with the two-month programme scheduled to begin later this year. Designed for writers at the beginning of their careers, the initiative combines mentorship, workshops and practical writers' room experience, culminating in a pitch to Netflix India's content team.
Applicants must be residents of India with no more than three years of professional screenwriting experience and should be developing an original series intended for a Hindi-speaking audience. Selected participants will receive guidance from Netflix executives and established industry professionals while developing their projects into a professional series bible.
In addition to mentorship, the programme offers selected writers an option fee of ₹3 lakh for their participation. Writers will also take part in collaborative writers' room simulations and development sessions designed to mirror the process of creating premium streaming series.
The launch reflects a growing effort by streaming platforms to invest directly in discovering new creative voices rather than relying solely on established writers and production companies. While Netflix has long commissioned projects from experienced creators, the NextGen programme creates a structured pathway for emerging writers to develop original work with industry mentorship.
Unlike screenplay competitions or script contests, the programme focuses on long-form series development, equipping participants with the skills to build commercially viable projects while gaining insight into the creative and editorial processes behind streaming originals.
Applications close on 1 September 2026.
